Welcome to San Antonio
San Antonio is a food lover’s paradise with countless dining options. The River Walk, where I stayed, is lined with bars and restaurants, offering a vibrant culinary scene. Instead of overwhelming you with a long list, I’ll share a few of my absolute favorite and must-visit spots. These are the places that truly stood out to me and are worth checking out for an unforgettable dining experience.
Bruno’s Dive Bar
Bruno’s Dive Bar, located at 1004 S. Alamo Street in San Antonio, is a beloved local hangout that has brought the iconic corner of S. Alamo & Cedar back to its 1960s charm. The barbeque here is some of the best I’ve ever had. We ordered our food and sat at picnic tables, enjoying our beers. I even got invited into the Pit to see where they cook the barbeque. Although it’s a bit of a walk from the River Walk, it’s definitely worth it. The bar has a very relaxed vibe, offering a nostalgic ambiance with vintage beer lights, modern games, and jukebox tunes. Guests can enjoy well drinks, chilled beer, and bar snacks, with an IPA on tap for craft beer lovers. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Bruno’s Dive Bar is the perfect place to unwind and soak in the Southtown atmosphere.
Rita’s On The River
The food and gigantic Margaritas were delicious at Rita’s on the River. It is located at 245 East Commerce Street in San Antonio, is a must-visit on the famous River Walk. This place is known for its lively atmosphere and mouthwatering Tex-Mex dishes. With both indoor and patio seating right by the river, it’s the perfect spot to take in the scenic views while you eat. The live mariachi music adds to the festive vibe, making it a hit with both locals and tourists. Whether you’re looking for a casual lunch or a fun dinner, Rita’s on the River offers an unforgettable dining experience.
Mad Dogs British Pub
Mad Dogs British Pub, at 123 Losoya Street on the San Antonio River Walk, brings a taste of Britain to Texas. Since opening in 1995, this authentic British-themed pub has become a favorite for both locals and tourists. They offer a fantastic selection of draft and bottled imported beers, exotic cocktails, and classic British pub fare like fish and chips, cottage pie, and bangers and mash. The pub has a lively atmosphere with live entertainment every night, including local bands, karaoke, and themed parties. With its prime riverside location, Mad Dogs is the perfect place to relax, enjoy a drink, and soak in the vibrant River Walk scene.
Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub
Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub, at 200 South Alamo Street in San Antonio, is a lively River Walk spot that brings a touch of Ireland to Texas. This pub has been a local favorite for nearly 50 years, famous for its raucous nightly sing-alongs and delicious pub grub. Modeled after the original Durty Nelly’s in Ireland, it offers a cozy and authentic Irish pub experience. Guests can enjoy a wide selection of beers, hearty Irish dishes, with live piano entertainment. Whether you’re looking to join in a sing-along or just relax with a pint, Durty Nelly’s is a must-visit.
