Washington’s Guns
Washington’s Guns in Savannah, Georgia, are historic bronze cannons gifted to the Chatham Artillery by President George Washington during his visit to the city in 1791. These cannons, one of English and the other of French origin, showcase the remarkable craftsmanship of 18th-century ordnance. The English cannon, cast in 1758, features the royal insignia of George II, while the French cannon, made in 1756, bears the coat of arms of Louis XIV. I've experienced two haunted pub crawls in Savannah, and without a doubt, Savannah’s Original Creepy Crawl Haunted Pub Tour is the best. As the city's oldest and most established haunted pub crawl, it has been delighting thrill-seekers nightly since 1996. Starting from the Six Pence Pub in the Historic District, this two-hour adventure takes you through up to a mile and a half of sometimes uneven walkways. Along the way, guests enjoy spine-tingling ghost stories at various locations while sipping to-go drinks from up to four local bars. Led by knowledgeable guides who share their personal encounters with the paranormal and eerie historical details, the tour offers a unique glimpse into Savannah's haunted past. Remember, it’s an adults-only experience, so don't forget to bring your valid photo ID!
Just Walk Around
Honestly, the best part of Savannah, Georgia, is simply walking around and soaking it all in. There are endless things to see, drink, and eat. Horses can be spotted around almost every corner, making for a picturesque stroll. People-watching is a must, and there are plenty of cool shops to explore. The river walk is a highlight, where you can sit and enjoy live music, whether from a band or a solo performer playing on the street. During my second visit, I stumbled upon a fresh market and fair right by the river, complete with food, drinks, henna tattoos, and face painting. It was an unexpected delight that added to the overall experience. Just walking around, taking a seat, and enjoying the rich culture and history is truly the best way to experience Savannah.
